its been amazing to see the generosity of people not just here in Australia , but world wide wanting to help out and contribute in some way towards the devastation in Queensland caused by massive floods this past week.

There are heaps of amazing auctions and raffles popping up all over blogland at the moment with the master list for all of the auctions/raffles out this evening so go and bid your donation on one of the lovely prizes up for offer!  My little auction has already surpassed my expectations! (but im sure we can do better!)

Steph is organising some soft dollies for small people in emergency shelters who have lost everything, so maybe you can help out by making a softie and giving a small child some comfort in these difficult times.

Corrie is organising quilts to be made and given to theses families as well, and is asking for 12.5" blocks or whole quilts , whatever you can contribute.

Queensland Flood Relief Auction

Im starting my auction off today and i am selling the Baby Bunting Quilt, a set of 6 fat quarters from the Flower Sugar 2 range and 1 metre of gorgeous matryoshka ribbon.  The baby bunting quilt is made from the Dream On fabric range with bamboo/cotton batting and a linen pieced backing.  It measures 32.5"x35".

How this auction works:

1. Bidding will start at $10 (Australian).

2. You can place a bid by leaving a comment on this blog post with your bid amount and email address. Please make sure that your bid is higher than the previous bidder.

3. Your bid must be in whole dollar increments.

4. This auction is open to everyone. Postage is FREE !

5. The auction begins NOW and will END at midnight on Monday 24th January 2011.

6. At the close of the auction, I will contact the winner (please make sure your bid comment includes your email address). The winner will pay the winning amount directly into the Premier's Flood Relief Appeal and send me proof of payment via email. Once proof of payment has been received, I will post your items to you.

A quick trip to the op shop this morning turned up this little gem, i originally thought oooh nice fabric, but when we got home and my girl tried it on , it was perfect for her and suits her well too, Born in the wrong era maybe?

Seeing the devastation ripping through Queensland at the moment makes me feel pretty helpless, so im joining in on the auction appeal instigated by Toni.  If you can help by donating an item for auction or by supporting the auctions by bidding please do, many Queenslanders are in need of our support !!

i used Dream on by Moda and kona cotton in white for the top ( i love kona cotton - so lovely to sew!)

a cotton / linen blend in baby pink for the back, and pink polkadot from Lecien for binding.

This was the first quilt i free motion quilted on my new machine and i can tell you i muttered quite a few swear words in the process.  Hopefully i will get the hang of it soon!

Im thinking of doing a little tutorial for this - anyone interested?

Well, Happy New Year to you!  Hope 2011 is off to a good start , ive been getting well aquainted with my new sewing machine, i love it!  It has scissors at the push of a button which trims the threads for you, i dont know how i ever sewed without it. Truly spoilt - i know!

I finished the kaleidoscope top yesterday and asked the intended recipient Master 4 if he liked it.  He doesnt - he wants a "blue one" .  Bugger.  Doesnt matter i think it will look rather spiffy on the couch.  Ive got no idea how to quilt it though.  Stippling would be the easy option but i want to highlight the kaleidoscopes, somehow?

So since master 4 has rejected it ive been thinking about a quilt for him.  I started these blocks a while ago

I wanted to make the stars a random size to give it a falling star kinda look.  Ive ended up with different size blocks and i think trying to join them up will give me a headache! I really love the look of them though.  But then i had a brainwave and thought maybe i could make different size stars in same size blocks and came up with these.  It was just for a practice run but i am rather pleased with how they turned out and i think i will keep going with them 

I think it will give me the look im after - just need to make a blue one!
