My Creative Space

Finished one cushion and started another. I love making these granny squares, they are so quick and easy and Ive discovered how to join them as you go. This cushion was made from a bag of tapestry wools I bought from spotlight for five bucks. I dont do tapestry but I thought they might be good for granny squares and I really loved the colors.

On the back of this cushion I used an old woollen blanket from the op shop with a button closure.

This is another one waiting for a backing.

I bought a bundle of vintage sheet fat quarters, (I just couldnt help myself !) The colors are so gorgeous and Ive got plans for these

And my latest addition , I cant help myself with these either! Twenty bucks from the tip shop and it sews beautifully. I cant believe how many machines end up at the tip and all that is wrong with them is that they need the fluff cleaned out or a new needle or they have the wrong bobbin. Op Shop Finds

Scored some good pieces today, a couple of retro cotton fabrics, a heap of old silver plated forks and spoons, a pair of unused vintage Actil pillowcases and a bunch of old knitting needles!

Going round in circles....

... well thats how I've felt this week and not much to show for it. I started painting our new kitchen / living area and still got three coats to go! Ahhhhhh!

I did a tiny bit of sewing , I did a practice run of the wagon wheel quilt which I had great intentions of making my sister for her birthday- lucky cos Ive decided its way too time consuming and she will probably be 80 by the time she gets it. So I have to go with plan B, just dont know what that is yet! I'm thinking I will use this block in a cushion cover to replace my desperately needy mouldy green cushion covers -Yechhh!

And here is a little bit crochet I started last night - dont really know what I'm doing here but enjoyed sitting on the couch after the kids went to bed and just zoned out, it's good to be able to do it without really thinking about it!

A New Project

I bought this gorgeous quilt pattern off Etsy a little while ago, and I'm itching to get started on it . It's only a lap size quilt and I would like to adapt it into a queen size for my sweet sisters 40th birthday in August. She'll be reading this so "Hello Kirsty!". (No surprises around here.)

I'm going to use all my different fabrics including vintage sheets so will have a project for my sheets from the Vintage sheet FQ swap straight up. I've been busy ironing all of these in preparation for the swap, a few there havent made the cut - just too thin - which is a shame. Does anyone have any ideas for using these thin fabrics?

Vintage sheets

I dragged out all my vintage sheets today to see what I had and what would be suitable for the swap. Its all been stored in plastic tubs and is getting a bit musty smelling. Got a bit of washing to do, lucky we don't have water restrictions!

Should get some good fat quarters out of this lot. There are a couple of sheets that are a bit thin in spots, I'll have to see how they come up. Ive got a couple more lurking about but they didnt make the photo shoot!

This is a quilt I made for my bed with Amy Butler Love collection and mixed it in with different vintage fabrics mainly sheet fabrics. I was so wrapped with how it turned out and I quilted it on my domestic sewing machine ( one I picked up from the rubbish tip for twenty bucks - but thats another story ). I was tempted to have it quilted professionally but I'm glad I didn't, I love all the wonky and irregular stiches , it gives it character, I reckon anyway. Theres a vintage sheet swap over here so I might pop over and join in!

Just arrived in Blogland!

Hello, my name is Melissa and I've just started blogging. I'm still trying to figure it all out! When it comes to computers I'm a bit slow, ( put me in front of a sewing machine any day). I thought I would like to give blogging a go as I love to read others crafty blogs and hope to meet some crafty minded persons and share ideas.

This is a quilt I have just completed for my five year old. It is made up of 8.5" squares of new and vintage fabrics and was inspired by the beautiful patchwork quilts from rose hip You may recognise her lovely crochet edge pillowcases on the bed.

To go with the new quilt I also made this sweet little mirror from recycled mirror and modelling clay. Perfect for her new room.

I cant figure out why my photos are appearing at the top of the page. Hopefully Ill work it out before my next post! Enjoy the weekend!
